E-mail Print PDF

The Virtual Works has achieved a Technology Top 100 accreditation for the third consecutive year placing the firm amongst SA's technology elite. The Department of Science and Technology’s 2009 accolade was earned for the firm’s innovative application of Web 2.0 technology at Deloitte. The Virtual Works unique internet system successfully connected a community of 6000 Deloitte employees to the Deloitte strategy, helping Deloitte to effectively engage its entire staff in the firms strategy - and to efficiently and meaningfully recognise and reward contributions to it.

Started in 1990, TT100 today has the strong support of both government and the private sector. TT100 is mandated by the Department of Science and Technology to identify and celebrate South Africa’s role-models in science and technology.  TT100 firms are selected through a rigorous evaluation process which tests an ability to sustainably manage the technology innovation process for competitive advantage. "The Technology Top 100 Awards are recognised as the premier business excellence awards in South Africa. This celebration of excellence is also a celebration of truly South African innovation." said Mosibudi Mangena, Minister of Science and Technology at the recent awards ceremony.

TT100 is a member of the Da Vinci group of companies. Eskom is the premier corporate partner and additional private sector partners include the South African Academy of Engineering, TBM Communications, and Financial Mail Innovations.

Privacy and consumer protection acts

The Consumer Protection Act and the Protection of Consumer Information acts will be promulgated into law in the next few months. These acts, together with amendments to the Companies Act and the King Code will align SA with global privacy and electronic communication and transaction practices. The legislation will impact significantly on businesses rights to send mails and digital communications to customers – and on the on the way companies procure, store and use data.
